SUMMARY:IQUA Autumn Symposium 2024
DESCRIPTION:The theme of this year’s symposium will be “Peatlands: Past\, Present and Future”. Peatlands are recognised as a pivotal part of the landscape and have had a major impact on the development of culture\, history\, and science. Recent studies estimate that ~23% of Ireland’s Quaternary landscape can be considered as peat soils. These environments continue to be important for society as we face environmental challenges. In keeping with our theme we are delighted to announce our keynote speakers include Dave Beilman (University of Hawai’i at Mānoa)\, John Connolly (Trinity College Dublin) and Kate Flood (University College Dublin).

DESCRIPTION:In 2024\, the Peribaltic WG conference will be held in western Estonia\, including the islands of Saaremaa and Hiiumaa\, on August 25-30\, with a meeting point in Pärnu. The scientific session on August 26 will be followed by the field trip on August 27-30\, which will start and end in Pärnu. Like in the case of previous Peribaltic WG meetings\, this symposium is not restricted to topics shown in the title\, but contributions on a broad range of regionally or globally relevant Quaternary geological topics are welcome. We try to keep the meeting simple and affordable\, especially for students and senior colleagues.

SUMMARY:PalaeoArc 2024
DESCRIPTION:The 5th PalaeoArc Conference will be held between May 27-29\, 2024 in Stockholm\, Sweden. An optional 1-day fieldtrip will be organised on Sunday May 26th\, before the 3-day conference begins. Logisitcal details will be available at the start of January when we will send out another circular with information on how to register. \nThe scientific session on Wednesday May 29 will be dedicated to presentations on Arctic/sub-Arctic paleoclimates of the last interglacial (LIG). This session will be run jointly with a smaller targeted workshop entitled: LIGA: Spatial Patterns of Last Interglacial Arctic climate change (LIGA) that will continue on the Thursday and Friday of that week. \nThe purpose of LIGA is bring together paleoclimate proxy and modeling experts to compare spatial patterns of climate change during the LIG with today and investigate to what extent it is or isn’t an analog for the future.

SUMMARY:QRA 60th Anniversary Annual Discussion Meeting
DESCRIPTION:For the 2024 QRA Annual Discussion Meeting\, we aim to bring together researchers from all areas of Quaternary Science to celebrate this significant anniversary. The meeting theme\, Changing Resolutions in Quaternary Science\, has been chosen to encourage contributions from all areas of Quaternary research.  We welcome contributions relating to multiple concepts of ‘changing resolutions’; from advances in measurement precision\, data resolution\, and timescales through to a consideration of the changing practice of Quaternary research. For example\, this could include  changing resolution(s) in: \n\nDating techniques and their application\nStratigraphic records\, including annually laminated records of all types (lake and marine sediments\, ice cores\, tree rings\, speleothems\, shells etc.)\nImagery on all scales\, from Digital Elevation Models to electron microscopy\nDetection and analysis of all types of materials\, from DNA to biomarkers to elemental analyses\nUnderstanding of barriers to inclusion in Quaternary research.

SUMMARY:The Nansen Legacy Symposium
DESCRIPTION:The Nansen Legacy project invites the Arctic research community to the international symposium in Tromsø\, Norway\, 7-9 November 2023. \nWe welcome contributions and discussions across Earth system science to shed light on and reveal both regional characteristics\, connections and pan-Arctic responses. Join with contributions and discussions on how the Arctic Ocean is changing and what it will look like in the near future. \nSix sessions with oral and poster presentations will provide disciplinary focus across regions\, and regional focus across disciplines. While the Nansen Legacy project has focused on the rapidly changing northern Barents Sea shelf and adjacent Arctic Basin\, we strive for participation representing the Pan-Arctic heterogeneity to exchange knowledge and to connect science\, regions\, and humans.

SUMMARY:XXI INQUA 2023
DESCRIPTION:The theme of our congress is “Time for Change” to emphasize the critical role of Quaternary sciences in contributing the knowledge we need to face current societal and climate challenges. In fact\, the understanding of the global changes cannot be achieved without the scientific knowledge of how Earth has changed during the recent geological past. As such\, it is very appropriate to convene the international Quaternary community in Italy; the Mediterranean region is so geologically young and active\, it is the ideal location to discuss the process and events that shaped the landscape\, environments and ecosystems over the last 2.58 million years.
