SUMMARY:IGS Symposia: Ice Streams and Outlet Glaciers
DESCRIPTION:Ice streams and outlet glaciers are important components of an ice sheet’s mass balance and their behaviour directly impacts on sea level. These corridors of fast-flowing ice have been described as the ‘arteries’ of an ice sheet and their distinction is largely semantic\, with ice streams bordered by slower-moving ice and outlet glaciers bordered by exposed bedrock at the surface. Since the recognition of the importance of these features in the 1970s\, there has been a huge growth in their investigation. This began with the pioneering work on West Antarctic ice streams and has subsequently expanded to studies of ice streams and outlet glaciers in all of the world’s major ice sheets and ice masses. Of urgent concern for society are recent observations of dynamic changes in ice streams and outlet glaciers\, which are thought to be responsible for an acceleration in global eustatic sea-level rise. \nIn parallel\, those studying palaeo-ice sheet beds have long-recognised the distinctive geomorphology of ice streams in both marine and terrestrial settings. The study of palaeo-ice streams offers an unprecedented opportunity to reconstruct their behaviour over time-scales much longer than modern observations permit\, generating new insights into the spatial and temporal controls on their flow\, including longer-term perspectives on retreat rates and thinning histories. The beds of palaeo-ice streams and outlet glaciers are also more accessible for investigation\, leading to new insights regarding the mechanisms of sediment erosion\, transport and deposition beneath fastflowing ice\, including the formation of subglacial bedforms.

SUMMARY:Urbino Summer School in Paleoclimatology
DESCRIPTION:Applications open until March 6th 2025. The summer school of the USSP consortium focuses on past climate dynamics with special emphasis on the analysis of long-term carbon cycling and its implications in the understanding of present and future climates. USSP integrates lectures\, symposia\, field trips\, and exercises on the many different areas of paleoclimatology including biogeochemical cycling\, paleoceanography\, continental systems\, and all aspects of deep-time climate modelling. These techniques and systems are explored through interactive discussions of Cretaceous OAEs\, P/E hyperthermals\, the Greenhouse-Icehouse transition\, Neogene and Quaternary climate dynamics.

SUMMARY:15th International Conference on Palaeoceanography
DESCRIPTION:We are thrilled to welcome you to Bengaluru (India) for the 15th International Conference on Palaeoceanography (ICP15) . We are looking forward to hearing about your latest research on past ocean\, climate and Earth System processes over a range of timescales. Both proxy- and modelling-based approaches are welcome. The aim of the conference is to gain a better understanding of how our oceans and climate have evolved in the past\, what are the drivers of those changes and their relevance to future changes\, how those drivers of change have operated\, interacted and influenced the past climate and how novel approaches are being developed and applied to unravel process-based knowledge to contribute to the future climate predictions. We welcome world experts and newcomers in the field of Palaeoceanography. For the newcomers\, this is a unique conference that occurs every 3-4 years and voted by the members of the community to become a host. You will have an opportunity to showcase your science and select the next ICP host during the conference. This conference provides an opportunity to present and debate ground-breaking new observations while creating a friendly environment for fostering discussions of pressing challenges and new scientific discoveries.

SUMMARY:The 16th International Paleolimnology Symposium
DESCRIPTION:The goal of the IAL-IPA joint meetings is to celebrate research on lakes\, from multiple perspectives\, with a focus on the sediment record as both Earth System Archives and social and cultural memories of Human societies. This conference aims to bridge the gap across a broad range of disciplines that work within the overarching theme of Earth System and Climate-Environment-Cultural changes. \n\nIn 2025 we will gather in the lovely thermal city of Aix-Les-Bains\, in the vicinity of Université Savoie Mont-Blanc scientfic campus that hosts some of most active labs in France\, working on lake sediment records and on the shore of Lake Bourget\, which sediment accumulation has been intensively studied for decades. The orgnisation committee is keen to welcome you in Savoie !

SUMMARY:Ice Sheet Model Intercomparison Project (ISMIP) workshop
DESCRIPTION:ISMIP7 is the Ice Sheet Model Intercomparison Project for CMIP7 (pronounced `IZ-mip`)\nMelt of Earth’s ice sheets is already contributing to flooding experienced by coastal communities\, globally. \nISMIP7 uses computer simulations of ice sheet change (i.e.\, ice sheet modeling) to project future contributions to flooding by modeling how the ice sheets will lose or gain ice under the different potential futures for Earth’s climate projected by CMIP. \nCore to ISMIP7’s approach is a broad and open collaboration of nearly all international ice sheet models\, to incorporate as many uncertainties and as much glaciological information as possible.

SUMMARY:HAAM summer school
DESCRIPTION:HAAM is an international and open community of researchers interested in studying human population history\, ancestry\, and mobility through ancient DNA. Our main goal is the open exchange of knowledge for the betterment of the field\, and to work together to overcome common challenges of human aDNA research. \nWe are organising a summer school targeted towards Ph.D. students and early career researchers. We will cover the latest methodological techniques from a theoretical and practical perspective. The school will be fully available online and free between June 1st and 5th\, 2026\, in the Central European Time Zone between 9 am to 5pm.

SUMMARY:STRATI 2026
DESCRIPTION:We are excited to invite the global stratigraphy community to STRATI 2026 – Exploring the Depths: Bridging Tradition and Innovation in Stratigraphy\, taking place from June 28 to July 3\, 2026\, at Suzhou in Jiangsu Province\, China. \nThe STRATI congress is the official meeting of the International Commission on Stratigraphy held between meetings of the International Geological Congress. STRATI meetings serve as a cornerstone of international stratigraphic research\, fostering dialogue and innovation across continents with a legacy rooted in Europe. As Earth science challenges and opportunities become increasingly interconnected\, STRATI 2026 represents a pivotal opportunity to enhance global cooperation. Hosting this edition in Suzhou reflects the International Commission on Stratigraphy’s (ICS) dedication to promoting inclusive worldwide scientific exchange and addressing shared priorities in stratigraphic research.

SUMMARY:International Symposium on Interactions of Ice Sheets and Glaciers with the Ocean
DESCRIPTION:The International Glaciological Society will hold an International Symposium on ‘Interactions of Glaciers and Ice Sheets with the Ocean’ – a subject of growing urgency and scientific relevance as ocean-driven mass loss continues to dominate the evolution of the Greenland and Antarctic ice sheets. Scripps Institution of Oceanography is an ideal location for this symposium\, as an oceanographic institution which also hosts a Polar Center. ‘IGS2026’ is the third in a series\, following successful symposia in 2011 and 2016.
