SUMMARY:AGU Annual Meeting 2023
DESCRIPTION:This year\, as we convene >25\,000 attendees from 100+ countries in San Francisco for AGU23\, our theme is: Wide. Open. Science. 2023 might be the official year of Open Science but we also see it as an opportunity to affirm AGU’s overarching values and beliefs.  It is a message for all of us to carry as we come together to share\, inspire\, collaborate\, engage and most of all rededicate ourselves as a united community grounded in wide open science.

SUMMARY:The Nansen Legacy Symposium
DESCRIPTION:The Nansen Legacy project invites the Arctic research community to the international symposium in Tromsø\, Norway\, 7-9 November 2023. \nWe welcome contributions and discussions across Earth system science to shed light on and reveal both regional characteristics\, connections and pan-Arctic responses. Join with contributions and discussions on how the Arctic Ocean is changing and what it will look like in the near future. \nSix sessions with oral and poster presentations will provide disciplinary focus across regions\, and regional focus across disciplines. While the Nansen Legacy project has focused on the rapidly changing northern Barents Sea shelf and adjacent Arctic Basin\, we strive for participation representing the Pan-Arctic heterogeneity to exchange knowledge and to connect science\, regions\, and humans.

SUMMARY:XXI INQUA 2023
DESCRIPTION:The theme of our congress is “Time for Change” to emphasize the critical role of Quaternary sciences in contributing the knowledge we need to face current societal and climate challenges. In fact\, the understanding of the global changes cannot be achieved without the scientific knowledge of how Earth has changed during the recent geological past. As such\, it is very appropriate to convene the international Quaternary community in Italy; the Mediterranean region is so geologically young and active\, it is the ideal location to discuss the process and events that shaped the landscape\, environments and ecosystems over the last 2.58 million years.

SUMMARY:2023 Glacial Isostatic Adjustment Training School
DESCRIPTION:The application window will open on 1 November 2022. A training school focused on exploring glacial isostatic adjustment (GIA) modelling will be held from 3-7 July 2023 at Lantmäteriet in Gävle\, Sweden. The program will include lectures and practical exercises aimed at investigating the interactions between solid Earth deformation\, ice mass change\, and associated sea-level and geoid variations. Students will complete homework exercises utilizing freely available modelling software and will have the opportunity to spend one-to-one time with leading researchers in the GIA community while working through examples in class. A field trip to examine records of land uplift and sea level change will be included. \n

You will then put your ideas to work by creating a science graphic you can use for talks\, reports\, teaching and more. In a follow-up session\, you will receive feedback on your creations and have the chance to share them with the world (with attribution to you!) via the newly launched\, community-driven s-Ink.org graphics portal. We are looking to increase the type and number of geoscience content hosted – take a look and see what inspires you! \n–> https://s-ink.org/

This year\, and for the first time in the High Arctic\, the Svalbard Science Centre is hosting the meeting in Longyearbyen\, Svalbard\, Norway. \nAll those interested in Arctic science are invited to attend. The meeting is based around a series of talks and poster sessions covering all aspects of high-latitude environments\, with a conference banquet\, mid conference field excursion\, and an optional post-conference excursion in Spirtsbergen’s Isfjorden. Past Arctic Workshops have included presentations on arctic climate\, glaciology\, environmental geochemistry\, geomorphology\, hydrology\, soils\, ecology\, oceanography\, Quaternary history\, archaeology and more. Arctic palaeoenvironments\, terrestrial and marine\, have traditionally been at the centre of the Arctic Workshop.
