SUMMARY:2023 Glacial Isostatic Adjustment Training School
DESCRIPTION:The application window will open on 1 November 2022. A training school focused on exploring glacial isostatic adjustment (GIA) modelling will be held from 3-7 July 2023 at Lantmäteriet in Gävle\, Sweden. The program will include lectures and practical exercises aimed at investigating the interactions between solid Earth deformation\, ice mass change\, and associated sea-level and geoid variations. Students will complete homework exercises utilizing freely available modelling software and will have the opportunity to spend one-to-one time with leading researchers in the GIA community while working through examples in class. A field trip to examine records of land uplift and sea level change will be included. \n

DESCRIPTION:The theme of our congress is “Time for Change” to emphasize the critical role of Quaternary sciences in contributing the knowledge we need to face current societal and climate challenges. In fact\, the understanding of the global changes cannot be achieved without the scientific knowledge of how Earth has changed during the recent geological past. As such\, it is very appropriate to convene the international Quaternary community in Italy; the Mediterranean region is so geologically young and active\, it is the ideal location to discuss the process and events that shaped the landscape\, environments and ecosystems over the last 2.58 million years.

DESCRIPTION:We have arranged a NORDQUA members meeting after the end of the sessions at 18:15 on Saturday 15th July. You will find us in room 9\, 2nd floor of the Scienze della Terra building (use entrance Mineralogia).\nWe have invited the INQUA Representatives from the three Nordic countries who currently have representation with INQUA\, and they will give some brief updates about the INQUA Committee activity that is occurring in tandem to the scientific sessions. In case you are not aware the national representatives are as follows:\n\nFinland – Niko Putkinen\, GTK\nNorway – Inger Alsos\, UiT The Arctic University of Norway\, Josten Bakke\, University of Bergen\, and Fredrik Høgaas\, NGU\nSweden – Stefan Wastegaard\, Stockholm University\n\n\nWe will take a members photo and\, for anyone who is interested\, expect to move on to an informal social gathering for some drinks and food afterwards.
