When: May 30, 2026
Where: Jutland’s glacial history (Denmark)
Cost: 200 DKK
Sign-up: https://event.au.dk/events/nordqua-excursion-2026
Directly after the ARCPaC conference, we’ll have a full day excursion to northwest Jutland to see some of the key geomorphological, sedimentological, and geological sites, with evidence of Elsterian, Saalian, and Weichselian glaciations.
We will have a small gathering in the afternoon of 29 May, after ARCPaC, to introduce the sites and the key background alongside some socializing.
We’ll meet outside the Department of Geoscience at 8.00 on 30 May and return to the Department of Geoscience by 17.00. The cost of the trip is 200 DKK and will include bus transport and lunch.
During the excursion we’ll be visiting:
- Hald Sø: an elongate lake in a tunnel valley formed during the LGM.
- Megadunes: A series of megadunes, close to Flyndersø, representing large-scale drainage toward the north and west following initial retreat from the Main Stationary Line at the LGM.
- Knud Strand: an impressive example of glaciotectonised sediments from the Elsterian, Saalian, and Weichselian.
- Hanklit: one of Denmark’s finest examples of glacial tectonics. The sediments in the moraine, which is part of a larger moraine complex, consist of Early Eocene diatomite and Quaternary sediments, primarily meltwater gravel from the last Weichselian ice age.

Stops will not include long walks; however participants are asked to bring good shoes.
Please reach out to the local lead organizer Timothy Lane (timothy.lane@geo.au.dk) or the NORDQUAexcursion offiicer Wesley Farnsworth (WesleyF@hi.is) if you have any questions.
