Newsletter items: 1. Update from the Secretariat: Seeking a New Communications Officer; 2. NORDQUA at NWGM 2026; 3. Upcoming Excursion: Denmark 2026; 4. Recent PhD Graduates
Dear NORDQUA colleagues,
Just as 2025 starts to wind down, we want to gear you up for 2026. See our important news items below!
1. Update from the Secretariat: Help us Communicate!
The mission of NORDQUA is to encourage cooperation and communication among Quaternary scientists in the Nordic countries. A key and crucial part of that is our Communications Officer. Henry Patton has been doing this important job since 2021 and after so many years of service, we are seeking a replacement – so get in touch and get involved in your community. Please email secretariat@nordqua.org if you are interested. We also now have a Bluesky account, which you can follow to find out more news.
2. NORDQUA at the NGWM 2026: Social and Community Meetings
We have two activities (yes – two!) organised at the NGWM 2026 in Turku.
After the ice breaker on Tuesday January 13 we will gather NORDQUA members for a social beer at the Gastro Pub which is close to the conference venue. From 20.00 we have the “History Class Room” booked, but it is possible to arrive earlier since it is normally a quiet night. It is possible to order food until 21.00 and the pub closes at midnight. Hope to see you there!

We will also have a general community meeting on Wednesday, January 14 at lunchtime (12.00-13.00). Please grab your lunch and come up to the meeting room “Goto 31” located on the 3rd floor. Get in touch if you have any items to discuss by mailing malin.kylander@geo.su.se.
3. Upcoming Excursion: Denmark 2026
The 2026 NORDQUA Excursion is planned for May 30th 2026 – leaving from Aarhus, Denmark. The Excursion will directly follow the 1st International ARCPaC Conference held in Aarhus May 26-29th. The excursion will start with a small gathering the evening of May 29th followed by a full-day field trip including a range of geomorphology, sedimentology and geological discussions related to Jutland’s glacial and sea level history. Stay tuned for Excursion registration and details – coming early Spring 2026.
Local Excursion Organizers: Aarhus University – Tim Lane and Jan Piotrowski; and GEUS – Anders Damsgaard.
Please reach out to the local lead organizer Tim Lane (timothy.lane@geo.au.dk) or the NORDQUA excursion officer Wesley Farnsworth (WesleyF@hi.is) if you have any questions.
